Hiccup's sword, Inferno, was a marvel of engineering. With an extendable blade that could be coated in a Monstrous Nightmare's flammable saliva, and the ability to spray Hideous Zippleback gas, it was the perfect dragon training tool. After all, not every weapon could be used to convince a dragon that the wielder is one of them.
That said, as an actual sword? It wasn't very useful. While it could cut and stab, it couldn't be used to parry blows from anything much heavier than a saber without shattering. Which was why Hiccup was in the forge, constructing a much sturdier blade.
Truth be told, Hiccup wasn't very gifted when it came to melee combat. He was passable in a pinch, Astrid had seen to that, but he was far, far better at fighting in the air. And he could avoid needing to do either, all the better. But preventing battle wasn't likely to be an option very often here, and as for fighting alongside Toothless? The incident with Dipper and Mabel proved that might not always be an option either.
The blade, Hiccup hadn't quite thought of a name for it, having only thought of it as a replacement for Inferno as he was making it, was more or less finished. All that was left was quenching and tempering it.
Steam rose as he doused it in water, and he lifted the cooled blade out to study it. It was about this point that the blade promptly caught fire.
"SWORDONFIRESWORDONFIRE!!" Hiccup shouted, before shoving it back in the water.
Taking a deep breath, Hiccup thought it through logically. Swords did not just catch on fire on their own. Magic had to be involved somehow, possible his myth powers. He hadn't set anything else on fire, not magically at any rate, so that ruled out fire powers. What was different about the sword? Well, he'd made it for one thing...could that mean he could enchant weapons somehow?
This required testing...

Hope I'm using this right. Hiccup here. Y'know, the scrawny Viking guy with dragon for a best friend? I think I may have figured out my myth power. The one that doesn't involve talking to Toothless in my head, I mean. I made an enchanted sword, and I wanted to see if I could do something similar with anything else. So if anyone wants some sort of magic item, let me know. I can't guarantee it will actually be magic, I haven't really figured out this whole power thing yet, but even if it doesn't end up being enchanted I can guarantee whatever it is will be well-made.
