The alien suddenly stopped, jets activating at its feet to make it fly backwards and land in the courtyard between the buildings.
Raising its hands, it made strange, glowing spheres of yellow energy appeared in the air above it.
The spheres started to shimmer and spark dangerously, vibrating more and more. Before, the buildings had seemed to be falling apart even when the robot wasn't actually smashing them, but now the destruction of the surrounding buildings stopped completely.
Something odd shimmered silver inside the spheres of light, making them vibrate and spark even more, like some wild, darting, marine animal trying to break out of a fishbowl, and then finally they exploded into dots of light and dissipated.
The words may not have been in English but they were undeniably profane, judging by the tone.
Buildings started to degrade and collapse again. The roof of a building nearly slid down and fell on hobs cowering below, but the robot suddenly lifted an arm and a field of yellow light like the light of the spheres held the roof in place until they could get out of the way.
Somehow, some of the robot's words were sounding a little less alien, as if something was helping understanding coalesce into shape in their minds.
Of course, what it did next didn't exactly inspire trust. Mechanical parts shifted inside one arm and then there was terribly loud noise, high-pitched and grating.
It wasn't loud enough to deafen anyone but it was definitely unpleasant and somehow it made the air feel heavier, as if they could feel the vibrations the sound was causing.
